Phú Quốc Island, a large island off Vietnam's southwest coast, is famous for its world-class fish sauce. This flavorful condiment is beloved in Vietnam and exported to many countries around the world. For over 200 years, Phú Quốc has created its flavorful fish sauce using traditional methods.
Unlike many fish sauces made from various fish, Phú Quốc fish sauce uses only black anchovies. These anchovies feed primarily on plankton, which some believe contributes to the unique flavor of the fish sauce.
Freshness is paramount in Phú Quốc fish sauce production. Immediately after catching, the anchovies are combined with seawater in a specific 3:1 ratio with salt. This swift salting technique prevents spoilage and is credited for the fish sauce's exceptional protein content and enjoyable aroma.
Capturing the essence of Vietnam, our 102 Fish Sauce™ is crafted using artisanal techniques, fermented for 18 months in large wooden barrels built from local Litsea wood (gỗ bời lời), this traditional process infuses the sauce with its rich and complex umami flavor, a testament to Vietnam's rich culinary heritage in every bottle.
Hanoi's One-Pillar Pagoda, also known as “Chùa Một Cột” or “Liên Hoa Đài”, is a landmark with a unique history. Built in 1049, it was inspired by Emperor Lý Thái Tông's dream that he met the Bodhisattva Avalokiteshvara (Bồ Tát Quan Âm), who handed him a baby son while seated on a lotus flower.
Sadly, the original pagoda was destroyed in 1954 by French army departing Hanoi. However, the architect Nguyễn Bá Lăng used surviving records from the Nguyễn dynasty to rebuild a faithful replica that stands today.
Much like “Chùa Một Cột” embodies the spirit of "có một không hai" (there is One not Two or One-of-a-kind), 102 Fish Sauce™ reflects its inspiration through our brand and logo. Our meticulously crafted fish sauce blend is aged to perfection, promising an unforgettable umami taste sensation highlighting the soul of Vietnamese cooking.
